Coplin’s Top Tips for Staying Safe This Summer: Part 1
Boating/Water Safety
Summertime festivities are well underway and the staff and management of Coplin Health Systems want you to be both happy and healthy all summer season. We’ve compiled some of our best tips for summer safety:
Hitting the lake or river is a great way to beat the heat, but don’t forget safety while enjoying the water. Remember U.S. Coast Guard approved life jackets are a must at all times, especially for infants, children, and those who cannot swim.
Being prepared with a boat safety kit is another smart idea—your kit should include flashlights, duct tape, a bucket, a first aid kit, a whistle, a mirror, a fire extinguisher, and enough life jackets for every person on board.
Always tell a friend or family member where you’re going and when you plan to be back.
Always check the weather beforehand; you don’t want to get caught in an unexpected storm while on the water.
Have a plan in place and never drink and drive after your days in the sun. Not only is it dangerous and illegal, alcohol affects judgement, vision, and coordination.
Be prepared to keep yourself, your passengers, and other boaters safe because accidents can happen, and don’t hesitate to call the Coplin clinic nearest you if you or someone you know needs medical attention.
Stay tuned for part two of our summer safety tips series.
