‘Paper Tigers’ Explores the Jungle of Adolescence with Free Movie Event
Coplin Health Systems will be hosting a documentary film that explores the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) on struggling teens.
Through a grant from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation and the WV ACES Coalition, a free showing of the film Paper Tigers will screen from 10 a.m. until noon on Nov. 6 at The R.O.C.K located at 445 Dudden Fork Road in Kenna.
Following six students over the course of a school year, the documentary explores a newly implemented trauma-sensitive program and observes how teens with ACEs navigate the triumphs and challenges of adolescence.
Set within and around the campus of Lincoln Alternative High School in the rural community of Walla Walla, Washington, filmmakers James Redford and Karen Pritzker delve into the impact of traumatic childhoods as the students provide raw and valuable insight into their unfortunate circumstances.
Paper Tigers showcases how one community took charge by implementing a trauma-sensitive program for children and families in need. With the program in place, the community saw a significant change in the success of its children at school.
Coplin Health Systems hopes families and community members who want to help children be more successful, and social service agencies who currently work to support children, families and the community will join this event.
In an effort to raise awareness of ACEs and resources available, a resource fair containing information in the area will be set up at the showing.
