Wirt County Family Care Welcomes Native Dr. Darrin E. Nichols Home

Coplin Health Systems is pleased to welcome family physician, Darrin E. Nichols, MD to Coplin Health Systems at our Wirt County Family Care location. Dr. Nichols is from Walker, WV, and is excited to return home and offer quality care to the community.

Dr. Darrin Nichols, MD

As a native of Wirt County, Dr. Nichols saw firsthand the impact that healthcare can have on rural towns, which is what helped him choose to become a family physician.

“There is a deep sense of community in a small area such as this – one which has stayed with me throughout college, medical school, and residency. Family plays a major role in my life as well and is also part of the reason I became a family physician,” Nichols said. “By practicing Family Medicine, I get to take care of people not only in the context of their personal health but also in the context of their families and their community, which I find deeply rewarding.”

Dr. Nichols received his MD from West Virginia University’s School of Medicine in May 2017. In May 2013, he received his B.A. in Biology from WVU’s Eberly College of Arts and Science where he graduated with high honors from the biology department.

Dr. Nichols is a recipient of several distinguished awards, including the Excellence in Graduate Medical Education Award, the Rural Scholar Award presented by the WVU School of Medicine, and one of only five, nationally, to be honored with Pisacano Scholar Award in 2016.

Dr. Nichols currently serves on the Health Sciences Advisory Committee where he provides guidance for action by the commission and works closely with rural health initiatives, rural practice retention, and rural graduate medical education. He is also a member of several health-focused organizations, including the American Academy of Family Physicians, Pisacano Leadership Foundation, National Rural Health Association, West Virginia Rural Health Association, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honorary, and the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

“Dr. Nichols’ love of community and his education will be a huge asset not only for Coplin but for the patients of Wirt County Family Care,” said Rob Dudley, CEO of Coplin Health Systems. “His background truly shows his drive and compassion for offering quality care to patients. We, at Coplin, are thankful that Dr. Nichols has come home to serve and care for the Wirt County community.”

Dr. Nichols is now accepting appointments, please call Wirt County Family Care 304-275-3301.
