4 Reasons to Attend Our Heart Health Lab Screening Event

During the month of February, most people are thinking of celebrating Valentine’s Day with chocolates and candy hearts. But something else should be on everyone’s mind as well — heart health. The month of February is nationally recognized as American Heart Month, where organizations and individuals work to bring awareness of heart health and heart disease. Poor heart health affects a large portion of Americans, from heart attacks to stroke and obesity — all health issues that can lead to cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease is estimated to have taken the lives of roughly 655,000 Americans each year.

Though a high number of people can experience heart problems, heart disease is preventable in most cases through healthy lifestyle choices. These choices include, not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, controlling blood sugar and cholesterol, treating high blood pressure, getting at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity a week and getting regular checkups.

To help bring awareness to the importance of heart health, Coplin Health Systems will be holding a Heart Health Screening event. The event will be held from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on February 15 at Southern Local Schools Wellness Center, located at 906 Elm Street in Racine, Ohio.

Here are four reasons why you or a loved one should be screened for heart health:

1. Various tests will be available.

Attendees can be screened for various labs including:
● Thyroid (TSH)
● Blood Count/Anemia (CBC)
● Cholesterol/HDL/LDL/Triglycerides (Lipids)
● Glucose/Electrolytes (CMP)
● HgbA1C
● Vitamin D
These tests can help determine your current health and detect any health complications, such as certain cancers, diabetes, etc. If identified early enough, some health issues can be treated.

It’s advised that participants not eat or drink eight hours prior to testing.

2. You can discuss results with your healthcare provider.

Participants will be mailed their results soon after the event. You’ll then have the opportunity to discuss results with your own health care provider to discuss the outcome, or you can schedule an appointment with a provider from the Southern Local Schools Wellness Center. Whichever you choose, the provider will explain the results, make suggestions on lifestyle changes, and determine what should be done next if the results have a negative outcome.

3. You’ll receive educational materials.

Along with the screening, the event will have plenty of educational resources available for participants to take home. Information on heart health and how to keep your heart healthy will also be available.

4. You’ll have peace of mind.

The screening event will allow you to be tested for potential health concerns in one sitting and results will be available soon after – a quick and easy way to evaluate your health status. These results will give you an indication of your health and offer guidelines on how you can prevent future complications.

The cost to be screened is $40 – cash, check or credit card payments will be accepted. This payment will not be billed to your insurance company.

Appointments are required to accommodate social distancing and wearing a mask is also requested for your visit. Call 740-949-2348 to reserve a spot.
